Minister of Discipleship and Administration
Position Summary:
The Minister of Discipleship and Administration will be responsible for overseeing the discipleship process at Shearer Hills Baptist Church (SHBC). This minister will work closely with the senior pastor, other ministry leaders, and committees to develop and implement strategies to help people grow in their faith and fulfill the church’s mission of spreading the gospel to the world. This minister will also provide leadership and support to the various missions and adult discipleship ministries in the church. This minister is responsible for managing the administration, managing the church budget and facilities, and assisting in pastoral care for the church body. Reports to the Senior Pastor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with leadership, planning, and implementation of the vision of SHBC.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy for the church.
- Train and equip small group leaders and other volunteers involved in discipleship ministries.
- Provide leadership and oversight to our Bible study programs, including curriculum development and recruitment of leaders, ensuring that they align with the overall strategy and vision of the church toward discipleship.
- Work with the senior pastor to create a culture of discipleship throughout the church, emphasizing the importance of spiritual growth and development.
- Develop and implement strategies for reaching and making disciples of new believers, as well as helping mature believers become active in the mission life of the church.
- Keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in discipleship ministry and administration strategies for possible incorporation into the church.
- Offers pastoral care and encouragement for staff, volunteers, and members, and participate in hospital visitations, weddings, and funerals as needed
- Effectively coordinate and communicate with appropriate church committees as needed to ensure goals are being met and operations are running efficiently.
- Attend staff meetings and become a member of SHBC.
- Attend church-wide activities and functions as available to develop rapport with the church community
- Must agree with SHBC’s statement of faith, willingness, and ability to exhibit SHBC values every day.
- Supervise all non-ministerial staff personnel
- Coordinate plans and agenda for church conferences
- Manage the church budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee, including budget planning, general oversight for expenditures, tracking and reporting data for financial progress, and ensuring proper fiscal procedures and policies are implemented
- Administrative oversight for the church facilities and equipment, including maintenance, proactive planning, and managing facility staff
- Coordinate administrative functions of the church, including assigned committees and supervision of assigned administrative staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience, and Requirements:
- Preferred seminary degree in a relative field or equivalent experience.
- Prefer five years of experience as a Discipleship and Administrative Minister.
- Growing relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by action, attitude, and behavior.
- Proven administrative and leadership skills in a team environment, with the ability to train and equip volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal skills in relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
- Demonstrate reliability, trustworthiness, initiative, and follow through on details.
- Embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change.
- Exhibit appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Proficiently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer for extended periods of time.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.
